          Cranksets
One of the most beautiful parts on a bike, a good crankset marrys beauty and strength

CAMPAGNOLO CRANKSETCAMPAGNOLO CRANKSET
Ah,the beauty of carbon once again. The new carbon crankset from Campagnolo looks fantastic. The Campagnolo crankset has an integrated 'ultra torque' bottom bracket with oversize axle and outer cups which reduces weight with not loss of stiffness. The carbon cranks are completely hollow, including the spider arms again shaving off weight.

The DuraAce crank is nicest peice of aluminium I can think of. The arms are hollow which both saves weight and increases stiffness. The bottom bracket is now integrated which again saves weight. The Shimano chainrings are nickel plated and with a tooth design which makes shifting fast and accurate.
          Brake Calipers

The only area I prefer the look of Shimano. The forged skeleton arms may well offer strength at a reduced weight but I think they look some how clumsy. The calipers are differientated, powerful front caliper and light rear caliper. Accurate pad adjustment.

Shimano were the first to make a Dual-Pivot brake, the latest is the 7800 brake design. It is a lightweight, compact and durable braking system. Through advancements in design, tighter tolerances have been created which creates a firm and instantaneous braking response. Also by integrating a convex washer to the fixing bolt of the brake pad, adjustment for toe-in is much easier allowing you to set your own braking preference.
